My love for Lefkada!
Maybe you recognise this. It starts with an idea, the idea becomes a plan, and step by step it becomes a reality. This is how it went with us.
The idea of a retreat centre was born in Corfu, during a tantra mantra retreat with Deva Premal. Thanks to the perseverance of Geert, we started to build a new dream: ‘Touch Infinity’, which brings us regularly to Lefkada.
Each time we visit, something grows, not only in the house and the project, but also in our hearts. The connection with the landscape, with the atmosphere, and with the people.
And little by little, especially me, I realise, that I don’t want to leave anymore, and that I want to come back as soon as possible. That’s pretty much how I feel about Lefkada.
Lefkada is about a half-hour drive from Preveza, which you can fly to during the season. If you’re lucky, you might see flamingos right in front of you as you enter the island via the pontoon bridge.
You immediately pass the small, charming capital, where the central main street is bustling with souvenir shops and delicious restaurants.
A lively atmosphere, yet with a calm, relaxed vibe.
From Lefkada town, Athani – our village- is about a 45-minute drive away. You can take a beautiful route along the sea or opt for the mountainous route.
Athani itself has around 200 inhabitants, but only about 20 remain in winter. You may not associate it with Greece, but in winter Lefkada can have some severe weither, with rain and heavy winds.
We already have a house in the village, which makes it easy to connect with the neighbours, who have become friends. They bring us food, we go to the sea together, and they invite us to birthday parties. How wonderful is that!
With the older villagers, we speak our best Greek. And it’s nice to notice that our language skills improve every year.
In the meantime, I have started giving yoga classes to the neighbours occasionally and offer massages to them.
And what about the construction work? It is progressing slowly but steadily. Four studios have been built, and work on our house is underway. Once the ground stabilisation is finally complete, we will open a bottle of champagne because we will then be able to start work on the main building.
Step by step, our dream is taking shape. Enjoy the photos!
